Tourism
Everybody can enter our Universe for free as a Tourist. You can chat with other people, play games, win prizes and even build your own home in one of the public worlds. However, your options and choices of avatars are limited.
Citizenship
Our Universe contains many public Web Worlds that you can explore for free as a tourist, although Citizenship gives you more privileges. If you want to explore all these options, become a Citizen of Activeworlds Europe. This gives you a registered name, a large choice of avatars, permanent builds and features like contact lists, instant messaging and private conversations in most worlds. It also allows you to open your own Web World. Citizenship costs € 6.50 per month or € 65 per year. Register now.
It all depends on what you mean...
For the last few years, the word ‘virtual’ has been applied to everything to do with computers, digital technology or the internet. The phrase ‘Virtual Reality’ (VR) has often been used to describe computer gaming environments, simulations, or interactive experiences requiring the use of helmets, visors, gloves, sensors or other devices that are connected to a computer or video screen. But VR doesn’t have to be that complicated. Our three-dimensional VR environments (Web Worlds) are accessible via the internet via a simple 3MB download. They allow you to move around in the form of an avatar (virtual person), meet other people online and communicate with them. They offer far more possibilities than normal two-dimensional websites, are free to visit, and are very affordable to rent.
Avatars
As an ‘avatar’ (a virtual person), you can meet tens of thousands of other visitors in recognisable and professional environments, in real time and interactively. You are assigned a basic avatar (often in the form of a typical male or female American tourist!) when you first enter a world. You can move your avatar around the world using your arrow keys and a few others. It won’t take you long to learn how to walk forwards and backwards, swim or fly through the environments. We have a team of moderators who help new visitors and regulate the chat to keep it pleasant for everyone.
Galaxy and Universe Licensing
For large-scale or professional use, you may find it more advantageous to buy a licence for a Galaxy or Universe. Both licensing options allow you to open your own virtual environments outside the AW-Europe universe and gain full control over both server and 3D client. The server software runs on different platforms (Windows, Solaris, Unix, etc) and can be used as an Intra- or Extranet solution.

A Galaxy is a server containing one world; a Universe contains many Worlds. Options range from Galaxy servers with a minimum of 1 million m2 and 50 people, to Universe servers with unlimited land and tens of thousands of users online. For more pricing options, please contact us.
Interact the professional way
Web Worlds offer you an extraordinarily effective new way to communicate with colleagues, clients or partners via typed chat, VOIP, streaming video and other means. You can also go up to them and invite them to follow you into the boardroom or to examine your product together. No ordinary two-dimensional website or e-mail link offers such possibilities.
It’s a visual business
You can see who you’re doing business with because everyone has an avatar (virtual body). This makes communication much easier and more memorable. In a Virtual Meeting, you can see who’s speaking because speech bubbles appear above their head (or under their name in the chat window if you prefer). See someone you know at a Virtual Conference? Go over and give them a wave.
Easy access
All that you (or your clients) need to enter a Web World is a broadband connection. It takes just a few minutes to download the 3MB Web Universe the first time. After that, you can just click the icon on your desktop each time you have a meeting.
Business products
Activeworlds Europe works together with some of the best 3D modellers and robot developers to create products that enhance your working life and make your business more successful. These include: Virtual Events – Virtual Boardroom – Virtual Shopping Centre – Virtual Trade Show – Virtual Classroom – Virtual Gallery – Simulations – and more. Web Worlds also facilitate Consumer-to-Business activities such as focus groups, customer-led innovations and gaining feedback.
The 3D classroom
Students no longer have to be physically sitting in front of you to learn. Instead, you can create a 3D classroom in which students are present in the form of an avatar (virtual body). Once everyone’s online, you can teach them using chat (typed or VOIP), audio and visual aids including pictures and streaming video. Just like in a real classroom, your students can see and hear what everyone else is saying. But unlike a real classroom, our 3D Web Worlds can be instantly entered by students living all over the world. Once your students have downloaded the browser, they can open it in just one click from the icon on their desktop. Virtual classrooms are the learning tool of the future. What could you achieve in yours?
True interactivity
Chatting, meeting and gaming are a lot more fun when you can see who’s online with you. So put on a virtual body (avatar) and join everyone else in our Web Universe! Explore the Worlds by flying, swimming, walking or running through them – and see who you meet! We often organise fun events, so keep an eye out for what’s happening. And bring your friends! Entry is free, so what are you waiting for?
